General Information


  • Your new Emory University email address is your OPUS; your password for OPUS and your email will be the same. You will be notified when you are able to access your Emory email account. You are responsible for accessing, reading, and responding to communications sent to your Emory email, accessible here. It is highly recommended that you check your Emory email daily.


  • Online Pathway to University Students (OPUS) is the online student information system through which you can update your personal information, view your financial aid, access your student account or student record, and perform other functions.
  • You are able to update your mailing address, email addresses, and phone numbers in OPUS. We highly recommend that you update your preferred mailing and email addresses as soon as possible. 
  • You should also make sure that you are signed up to receive emergency alert notifications from Emory University.  You can do so by logging into OPUS and clicking on the Emergency Alert link under the Personal Information tab of your OPUS homepage.


  • If you still have outstanding prerequisites, please send an updated transcript with those grades as soon as possible. If you do not complete your courses early enough to have an official transcript mailed, you must bring an official transcript with you to Orientation. Failure to provide a final transcript documenting completion of all prerequisites will result in withdrawal from classes.
All incoming Emory University students are required to complete the HavenPlus education module. HavenPlus is an online learning platform designed to educate students on preventing and responding to interpersonal violence in the Emory community. It takes approximately 45 minutes to complete (closed captioning is available for video portions).  Click here to complete your Haven Training  Click here for Haven FAQs.


  • Billing is in progress, and you will be able to use OPUS for all account activity. Please click here for more information.


  • All nursing students are automatically registered and cannot choose the time or day of their courses. Because nursing students are mass enrolled into their classes each semester, you and your classmates will have the exact same schedule. You will receive your official class schedule during orientation.


Emory University is committed to providing all students, faculty, and staff the opportunity to succeed within the Emory community. The Office of Disability Services (ODS) assists qualified students in obtaining a variety of services (i.e., alternative testing, notetaking, interpreting, advocacy, mobility/transportation, etc.) and ensures that all matters of equal access, reasonable accommodation, and compliance are properly addressed. As a new student, you will need to obtain an official university ID (mandatory for all students). You can use your EmoryCard to access a wide variety of services both on and off campus.

  • If you intend to park on campus, you will need to register for a parking permit. Parking deck assignments are made on a first come/first serve basis.Please refer to the Transportation and Parking website for online parking registration dates. If you have any questions feel free to contact the Parking office at 404.727.7275.
  • Please review the parking regulations on Transportation and Parking website before completing your registration. 


  • Emory encourages its students to explore all transportation options for travel to campus before registering to park on campus. Options including public transportation, Park-n-Ride, and carpooling are outlined on by the Office of Transportation and Parking. The cost savings — several hundred dollars — are significant.

Clinical Compliance


In order to meet the requirements of the Georgia Hospital Association and clinical sites, we require a background check and drug screen to be completed before you can begin clinical. Please follow the instructions below to submit your background check and drug screen.

You will need to complete the background check and drug screen using ACEMAPP NO LATER THAN APRIL 1 FOR AMSN STUDENTS, AND NO LATER THAN AUGUST 1 FOR BSN, ABSN AND GRADUATE STUDENTS.


All incoming students must meet the CDC and American College Health Association immunization guidelines prior to enrolling in classes. 

A copy of your immunization records must be sent to Emory University Student Health Services. Pleas complete the immunization form and email to or mailed to Attn: Molly Mitchell 1525 Clifton Road NE Atlanta, GA 30322. 

The deadline to submit the above documentation is August 1 for BSN and ABSN. The deadline is May 1 for AMSN. Please keep a copy of your immunization information for your records.

The deadline to submit the above documentation is August 1 for BSN and ABSN. The deadline is May 1 for AMSN. Please keep a copy of your physical exam information for your records.


All Emory University students are required to have health insurance. Under this requirement, students must either purchase:

  • Emory University Student Health Insurance Plan (offered by Aetna student health) or,
  • Provide documentation of enrollment in a comparable United States-domiciled plan.

Students wishing to waive enrollment in the Emory Student Health Insurance Plan will need to complete the annual waiver process via OPUS by Aug. 1 for BSN/ABSN students and May 1 for AMSN students. For information about student health insurance requirements and the health insurance waiver, please click here.

The deadline to complete your Student Health History is Aug. 1 for MSN students.

Why must I complete the compliance requirements? 

Compliance requirements must be completed in order for you to participate in the clinical experience.  These requirements are set by our clinical partners on an annual basis.  

I completed my background check online.  I haven’t received my email to complete my drug screen.  

You will receive your email for your drug screen on the first business day following the set deadline for the release form.  

What is a 2-step PPD?

 A 2-step PPD requires four steps. Please see below.  The purpose of this is to prevent any false negative reporting. The two placements should be within 364 days of each other.

Step 1 – get a PPD placed

Step 2 – have PPD read

Step 3 – get another PPD placed

Step 4 – have PPD read

What is a titer?

A titer is a blood test that is used to determine immunity.  

Does having the immunizations for Hepatitis B and history of Varicella (Chicken Pox) mean that I am immune?

 No this does not mean you are immune.  This is why we require a titer (blood work that proves immunity) as proof of immunity.

I had chicken pox as a child.  Does this count for proof of immunity?

No this does not mean you are immune.  You will still need to have a titer drawn.  

My Hepatitis B titer shows that I am not immune.  What should I do?

 Please seek advice from your physician’s office.  You will be advised on whether or not you need to repeat the series or get a booster.  Once you have completed this, you will need to complete another titer for proof of immunity.

Will I be able to start clinical while completing the repeat series of the Hepatitis B and/or Varicella series?

Yes, you will be able to begin clinical.  You will need to turn in proof for each vaccine you get in the series. 

Should I keep copies for my records?

Yes, you should keep your originals in a safe place and turn in copies to the School of Nursing and Student Health

I have a previous CPR certification that is due to expire in the middle of fall semester. Am I required to retake the certification class?

Yes, you must always have a current CPR card on file.

Does my CPR class have to be with American Heart Association?

Yes you must take the BLS course offered by the American Heart Association.  We will not accept a CPR card from any other agency.  

American Heart Association offers a BLS course online.  Can I take this course?

Yes you may take this course.  Please note that the online course is a 2 part course that still requires an in person session to be certified. 

Should I get my Flu Vaccine before I begin the program?

No, the Flu Vaccine is not available before September.  You will be notified when the Flu Vaccine is available and the due date for completing this requirement once the Fall Semester has begun.

I got DTap as a child, is this the same as Tdap?

No, Tdap is the adult version and needs to be renewed every 10 years.  Please be sure that you do not have a vaccine over 10 years old.

Can the School of Nursing access my Patient Portal record?

No we cannot, this is a service run by Student Health.  This is why we ask that you provide copies of your documents to both the School of Nursing and Student Health.

I cannot access the ELMS website to complete my HIPAA and BBP training.

You will gain access to this module approximately one month prior to orientation.  If you have issues after that, please contact Nicole R. Ingram with the Office of Education

What is ACEMAPP?

ACEMAPP is the online system that is used to manage all compliance documents and credential students for specific clinical sites.    

Do I have to upload my immunizations for each requirement in ACEMAPP?

Yes, each requirement must have a document uploaded to show complete in the system. 


  1. Review the required immunizations to begin the nursing program. 
  2. Please upload your immunization records to for review by the School of Nursing. If you do not have proof of the vaccine, you will also need to submit the polio vaccine affidavit with your immunization record.

You will not receive access to ACEMAPP until July 1.


  1. Have your health care provider complete a physical that shows evidence of good physical health. Click here to download and print the examination form.

Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers through the American Heart Association is required for all incoming students.

  1. Please visit the American Heart Association’s website to locate a class near you. Your signature on the back of the card is required.

An original state issued driver’s license or state ID is required.

You will need to complete the Bloodborne Pathogens Training titled "Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP) for Researchers." Please note that you will NOT be able to access the training until AFTER July 1.

  1. After July 1, click here to be taken to the ELMS Course Completion Guide which contains the information needed to access and complete the ELMS online training. The course code for your training is 240100. Please be sure to enter the correct course code, as there are multiple courses available in the training module. 
  2. Once you have reviewed the slides, click on the “Step 2:  Take the Assessment” link.  You should save after each response in the event there is a server issue.
  3. Upload a copy of the certificate designating your training completion into ACEMAPP at

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) directs health care providers, payers, and other health care entities to develop policies and procedures to ensure the security, integrity, privacy and authenticity of health information and to safeguard access to and disclosure of health information. Students are also obligated to follow these laws. As part of the contractual requirements between clinical training sites and the School of Nursing, students must receive documented training regarding confidentiality and privacy of protected health information covered under HIPAA. Students will also receive site-specific training upon arrival at the clinical site.

To satisfy requirements of the Georgia Board of Nursing, you are required to present your original Georgia RN License. Because a valid Georgia RN license is required in order for you to enroll in classes, The license verification process will be done through the Georgia Board of Nursing's online system.

EmoryCard with Prox Access with Student Name Badge- required for students who are not currently enrolled or employed by Emory University

  • Your Official University EmoryCard will have PROX access and allow for access into restricted areas at the hospitals during clinical rotations.
  • The cost of the card is $28.  Beginning in April, you can log on to your application portal to pay for the charge.
  • For students starting in the Summer, photos must be uploaded by May 1st.
  • For students starting in the Fall, photos must be uploaded by August 7th. 

Student Name Badge required for students who are currently enrolled or employed by Emory University

  • Your Nursing School name badge will serve as your ID for clinicals.  Your currently prox card will provide access for buildings or your EmoryCard account.
  • The cost of the card is $3.00. Beginning in April, you can log on to your application portal to pay for the charge.
  • For students starting in the Summer, photos must be uploaded by May 1st.  
  • For students starting in the Fall, photos must be uploaded by August 7th. 
  • Photos will only need to be updated if they are older than two years.

Graduate Technology Orientation  

  1. Emory NetID, Password and Security – All Emory and Nursing School accounts use your Emory NetID and Password for login. These will get you into all of your Emory accounts and should give you access to most computers and services on campus. NEVER GIVE OUT YOUR NetID OR Password.  You must reset your Emory password at least once a year. The self-service portal for your password reset is Your primary email address is your Emory . Your email alias is what you normally use .
  2. Emory Duo – Duo is a two-factor authentication system that Emory has implemented on multiple services to increase security. Duo is used for Emory email, OPUS, VPN and some PeopleSoft services.     Emory Software - Click on Software Express and login; this is software licensed by Emory for your use. If you do not have an up-to-date antivirus software on your computer download and install McAfee Antivirus. Also download and installEaglePrint driver for wireless printing on campus.
    Emory Unplugged wireless- Configure your computer and mobile devices to use Emory Unplugged wireless network. When you are on campus select Emory Unplugged network and authenticate with your Emory NetID and Password (see homework assignments).
    Library Training - Library training is open to students. EndNote class would be helpful. Being able to cite while you write is important. They also have PubMed and Literature Search classes. Go to: Also the Health Sciences library licenses point of care mobile resources:
  2. Emory Email on your Smart Phone – To put Emory Email on your smart phone follow Emory smart device security guidelines. You must: have a security PIN on your phone; allow your phone’s content to be encrypted; allow Emory to erase content of your phone if lost or stolen; and allow Emory to erase content of your phone if the password is entered incorrectly ten times. Information for Emory email to your phone or mobile device: iOS device or Android device.
  3. Have a Backup Plan – Back up your data frequently using Emory Box, Microsoft OneDrive (part of your Office 365 account), email or a separate backup drive. You must keep this up to date.
  4. Print, Copy FAX – Student printing and copying at Emory is managed via the Emory Card System. Please plan ahead and put money on your Emory Card. Go to .   5. ProctorU – is an online proctoring program. Depending on your course or specialty you may be taking classes online. Our online proctoring partner is ProctorU. Your course syllabus or faculty will let you know if you will be using this service. Before you can take or schedule an exam, you must set up your ProctorU account. A smart phone with a data plan is required for all nursing students. You will be required to use your smart phone as a reference tool in clinical settings. 

Many wireless carriers offer a student discount. Verizon Wireless offers a 15% discountAT&T offers a 15% discount on some charges. All smart phones and tablets are able to operate using Emory systems under these policy guidelines.


Emory University offers secure WiFi on campus for all students. We recommend that you choose a phone with WiFi capability.


All students are required to have a laptop computer for class. Most exams will be taken on the computer. Please review the minimum computer requirements below:


  • Processor: Intel Core i5 or i7 (or equivalent AMD processor)
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Hard Disk: 500 GB SATA or 256 GB solid state drive (SSD)
  • Removable Storage: Not necessary (DVD recordable, USB flash drive or external hard drive for backups recommended)
  • Display: 1024x768 minimum (1280x800, 13” display or larger would be better)
  • Networking: WiFi 802.11g (802.11n better, 802.11ac best)
  • Operating System: Windows 7/8.1/10 home premium or higher, Mac OS 10.8 or higher (Windows 7 starter or Home basic editions not recommended)


  • Modern Browser: Internet Explorer 10 or newer, Firefox (latest version), Chrome (latest version)
