About

Renée Byfield is  currently a doctoral student. Renée has diverse professional experience in  obstetric and newborn care. She is a national speaker focused on supporting  perinatal teams on developing strategies to achieve birth equity. She has  held positions in nursing leadership, management, education, program  development, interdisciplinary simulation, patient safety, and quality  improvement in academia, hospital, and ambulatory settings. These positions  have been within organizations that include NY Presbyterian - Cornell, the  Association of Women's Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN),  Kaiser Permanente Georgia, and the Institute for Perinatal Quality  Improvement. She was AWHONN's 2022 Diversity Equity and Inclusion Leadership  Award recipient. Her research interest is in obstetric violence. Using data  science, she wants to partner with health care professionals to bring  awareness and to mitigate this human rights issue.

Research

My research interest is in obstetric violence and the  intersectionality of racism, gender-based violence, and the unequal power dynamics present in provider-patient relationships.
