Master of Nursing (MN) Pathway to Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)

We offer four specialty areas in this program: Adult-Gerontology Primary Care, Family Nurse Practitioner, Pediatric Primary Care, and Women’s Health/Gender-Related Studies.

*Adult-Gerontology Acute Care, Neonatal, and Pediatric Acute Care REQUIRE a minimum of one to two years of RN experience to be eligible for program admission. These options are not available in the MN Pathway to MSN format. If your goal is to work in one of these specialties you should apply to the fall start MN program.

MN Pathway students may pursue the Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner specialty track on a part-time basis. Eligibility for this program requires successful enrollment in and completion of a 1-2 year registered nurse residency program in one of the following specialty areas: Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Stepdown/Intermediate Care, or Telemetry units. This experience must be documented through submission of a detailed experience verification form signed by a nursing supervisor, along with a current resume highlighting relevant acute care clinical responsibilities.

This cohort begins each year during the summer semester. Study in the MN portion of the program will be consecutive summer, fall, spring, and summer semesters. The MSN will begin the following fall or spring semester.

The MN degree program is offered on-site, and the MSN degree is offered online with on-campus intensives.

To be considered for admission to the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, you must submit the following items:

• Application for Admission
• $50 Application Fee
• Official transcripts from each school attended
• Students with international transcripts must provide an evaluation from World Education Services (www.wes.org).
• Resume or CV
• Optional Personal Statement
• TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo scores are required if English is a second language. Read Emory University's accepted tests policy here.

Please review the Prerequisites tab to review prerequisite course requirements. All prerequisite courses must be completed with a grade of C or higher. Prerequisite courses may be in-progress during application and must be completed prior to program orientation.

We prefer to see applicants with a cumulative GPA at a 3.0 or higher.

*Standardized test scores and letters of recommendation are not required for application to the MN Pathway to MSN program.‍‍

Admission decisions will be based upon candidate competitiveness as well as space availability. Applicants could potentially be placed on a waitlist. The prerequisites for the MN Pathway to MSN program include seven courses. You may submit an application for admission with the courses in progress, but all prerequisites must be complete with a grade of C or higher by program Orientation. Please review the list of prerequisites below, effective for all MN Pathway to MSN applicants:

*Starred courses must have been taken no more than seven years prior to beginning the MN Pathway to MSN program start date.

*May complete Human Anatomy + lab and Human Physiology + lab as separate courses.

    *The Human Growth and Development prerequisite must cover human development from conception through death.

Applicants to any of our distance-accessible courses/ programs that may lead to professional licensure or certification should become familiar with the regulations governing distance accessible programs in their state. Licensure requirements vary from state to state and by professional organization. Emory is working toward developing a database to provide this information. Prospective students residing in states other than Georgia and those states identified, should contact their state’s Board of Nursing and Department of Education for specific rules and regulations pertaining to completion of clinical learning experiences in that state when enrolled in a distance-accessible program.
