Awards

Recognizing students for hard work, performance, and service is a long and proud tradition at the School of Nursing. Anyone (students, faculty, staff, alumni, etc.) can nominate students from the BSN, DABSN, MN, and PhD programs. Self-nominations are allowed with a faculty recommendation letter. Not all awards are given to each graduating cohort. A list of awards can be found below. The Awards Committee thanks you for your participation and time. Nominations are due by 11:59 p.m. April 3, 2022.

Awards

Silver Bowl Award

The Nell Hodgson Woodruff Award for Excellence in Nursing, traditionally known as the Silver Bowl Award, was initiated in 1949 to honor outstanding graduating students. The Silver Bowl Award is presented by the Nurses’ Alumni Association to honor an outstanding graduate.

Nominations for the Award are made by students and faculty members. The award, a silver bowl, is presented by the Nurses’ Alumni Association.

The nominee must have a good academic record and embody all the school’s values: Excellence, Collaboration, Innovation, Leadership, and Social Responsibility. Please describe why the candidate should be considered for the Silver Bowl Award, noting specific criteria. Nominations submitted without a description will not be considered.

Specific examples are required for at least two of these categories:

  • Excellence in clinical practice. Support this category with examples that demonstrate ongoing excellence, rather than describing a single incident.
  • Evidence of leadership and collaboration, either formal or informal
  • Demonstration of social responsibility in school, outside activities, and clinical interactions
  • Demonstrated commitment to the School of Nursing

Award of Excellence

The Award of Excellence is given to a student with a good academic record who achieves significant, distinctive outcomes with consistent commitment to high quality. Describe why the nominee should be considered for the Award of Excellence.

The nominee should make a distinctive difference in the academic or clinical environment of the school of nursing. Nominations submitted without a description will not be considered.

Specific examples are required for at least two of these categories:

  • Excellence in multiple areas of leadership, collaboration, and/or social responsibility.
  • Demonstrating attributes of an agent for improvement in clinical or research areas.
  • Consistently high-level academic and clinical approaches to patient care, academics, and/or research.

Excellence in Collaboration

The Excellence in Collaboration Award is given to a student who embraces community, partnerships, mentoring, and diverse perspectives. Please describe why the nominee should be considered for the Excellence in Collaboration Award. Nominations submitted without a description will not be considered.

Specific examples required in at least one of these categories:

  • Collaboration in a clinical setting that exceeds or is outside of the expected clinical requirement.
  • Teamwork outside of academic assignments that demonstrates high levels of collaboration.
  • Mentoring or community work that applies principles of teamwork or collaboration.
  • Demonstration of pulling together diverse points of view in order to collectively achieve mutual goals.

Excellence in Social Responsibility

The Excellence in Social Responsibility Award is given to a student who treats all with respect and dignity and engages others to positively influence health and social justice. Please describe why the nominee should be considered for the Excellence in Social Responsibility Award. Nominations submitted without a description will not be considered.

Specific examples required in at least one of these categories:'Involvement in social engagement outside of the usual academic setting.

  • Involvement in social engagement outside of the usual academic setting.
  • Providing leadership or being a change agent in promoting the principles of social responsibility.
  • Working with others to help effect social or policy changes to improve health and quality of life.

Excellence in Innovation

The Excellence in Innovation Award is given to a student who creates, uses, evaluates, and disseminates cutting-edge approaches to advance our mission and vision. Please describe why the nominee should be considered for the Excellence in Innovation Award. Nominations submitted without a description will not be considered.

Specific examples required in at least one of these categories:

  • Development of or assistance in development of innovative methods for healthcare promotion or virtual monitoring.
  • Development of non-traditional methods of health care or education dissemination outside of classroom requirements, such as modules, podcast, etc.
  • Other examples of innovative approaches to positively influence the vision of the school of nursing.

Excellence in Leadership

The Excellence in Leadership Award is given to a student who shapes nursing, health care, and the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing through vision, courage, and optimism. Please describe why the nominee should be considered for the Excellence in Leadership Award. Nominations submitted without a description will not be considered.

Specific examples are required for at least two of these categories:

  • Formal leadership positions in school, local, or national organizations.
  • Informal leadership for groups of people such as student mentors, campus groups, etc.
  • Demonstrated initiative in addressing problems and/or concerns for their leadership group in a respectful and effective manner.
  • Effecting a positive change on a school-wide level through workshops, meetings, discussions, or other ways.
  • Providing a positive role model or demonstrating other examples of leadership qualities.

Compassion and Caring Award

This award is given to a student who exemplifies the empathy, generosity, caring spirit of our school’s namesake, Nell Hodgson Woodruff. Please describe why the nominee should be considered for this award. Nominations submitted without a description will not be considered.

Boisfeuillet Jones Medal

Representing what was special and unique about Jones, recipients are selected for their good citizenship, outstanding leadership, devoted service to Emory and the community, academic performance, and potential to become a 'Change Agent' in their chosen profession and society at large. Please describe why the nominee should be considered for this award. Nominations submitted without a description will not be considered.

Distinguished Clinical Patient Care Certificate

Clinical Patient Care Certificate, which recognizes an individual nursing student who provides exemplary direct patient c re and contributes to the advancement of nursing practice by demonstrating a commitment to personal leadership development, excellence in clinical practice and serving as an inspirational clinical role model for others. Please describe why the nominee should be considered for this award. Nominations submitted without a description will not be considered.
