1. To connect to SON drives or other trusted storage you must first launch Emory’s Virtual Private Networking software (VPN). The Big-IP Client software should be on your computer. You can download this software from https://it.emory.edu/vpntools/ .
2. If you have never used VPN, you must first have the service turned on for your Emory account. Call 404-727-7777 and request VPN be activated on your account
3. Then launch the Big-IP Client on your computer and log in using your Emory credentials. This is different than earlier web-based VPN clients.
4. Once connected the software minimizes and runs in the background.
5. You can now connect to or map your network drives

Note that VPN does not work in Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge web browsers.

Steps for mapping the S: drive.

1. Open My Computer or Windows Explorer.
2. Click on Tools and choose Map Network Drive.
3. In the Folder field type in \\nasn2acts.cc.emory.edu\son-ts\dept
4. Click on the field next to Drive and choose S.
5. Click Finish.
6. You will get a login prompt. In the Username field put "emoryunivad\username"
7. Note that username is your personal, unique username also called your Net ID. For example, if your name is Jane Doe and your username is jdoe you would enter emoryunivad\jdoe
8. In the Password field put the password you use to login to Emory email (this is the same password used for Blackboard and OPUS).

Steps for mapping the T: drive.

1. Open My Computer or Windows Explorer.
2. Click on Tools and choose Map Network Drive.
3. In the Folder field type in \\nasn2acts.cc.emory.edu\son-ts\home\username where "username" is your Emory Net ID
4. Click on the field next to Drive and choose T.
5. Click Finish. (Please note if your S Drive is already mapped and connected you will not be prompted for the following steps)
6. You will get a login prompt. In the Username field put "emoryunivad\username"
7. Note that username is your personal, unique username also called your Net ID. For example, if your name is Jane Doe and your username is jdoe you would enter emoryunivad\jdoe
8. In the Password field put the password you use to login to Emory email (this is the same password used for Blackboard and OPUS).

To connect to the S: and T: drives from a Macintosh (10.7 or newer)

1. Connect to VPN as described above (use Safari web browser).
2. With the Finder active, from the Go menu, select Connect to Server... .
3. In the "Address:" or "Server Address:" field, type smb://nasn2acts.cc.emory.edu/son-ts
4. Click Connect. When prompted, supply your university username and password.
5. Note that username is your personal, unique username also called your Net ID. For example, if your name is Jane Doe and your username is jdoe, you would enter jdoe.
6. In the Password field put the password you use to login to Emory email (this is the same password used for Blackboard and OPUS).
7. When you connect you will see folders called dept, home, and lrclab. The dept folder is the S drive. In the home folder you should see one folder named after your username. This is your T drive. The lrclab folder is currently not in use.

To connect to the S: and T: drives from a Macintosh (10.5 Leopard and 10.6 Snow Leopard)

Connecting to these drives is questionable with these two operating systems. One drive might work but not the other. Or maybe neither drive or both drives will work.

1. Connect to VPN as described above.
2. With the Finder active, from the Go menu, select Connect to Server... .
3. In the "Address:" or "Server Address:" for Leopard or Snow Leopard are:
For the S drive smb://nasn2acts.cc.emory.edu/son-ts/dept
For the T drive smb://nasn2acts.cc.emory.edu/son-ts/home/username
4. Click Connect. When prompted, supply your university username and password.
5. Note that username is your personal, unique username also called your Net ID. For example, if your name is Jane Doe and your username is jdoe, you would enter jdoe.
6. In the Password field put the password you use to login to Emory email (this is the same password used for Blackboard and OPUS).

Apple Macintosh operating systems 10.4 Tiger and earlier OS do not work. They cannot log in to the file server.
